In Kozhikode, a special boat expedition called the “Chaliyar River paddle” begins at 2 pm this Friday near Manavedan Higher Secondary School, Nilambur in Malappuram district. The aim is to promote water sports like kayaking and raise awareness about Chaliyar River conservation. Legislator P V Anwar will kick off the event.

Various kayaks, paddleboards, and yachts will join a trip organized by Jellyfish Water Sports Club, in partnership with Kerala Tourism Department, Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society, Paragon Hotel, Green Worms, and Kayakasia.
Around 100 water sports enthusiasts from India, Russia, Australia, Singapore, Germany, the UK, and other countries will join kayaking experts for a 3-day expedition along the Chaliyar. Beginners aged 8 to 60 can join. Kayaking hours are from 6 am to 6 pm.
The event will have about 100 water sports enthusiasts from various countries like India, Russia, Australia, Singapore, Germany, and the UK. Beginners in water sports can join experienced kayakers on a 3-day, 68 km journey along the Chaliyar River. Participants, aged 8 to 60, will kayak from 6 am to 6 pm.
“During our trip, we aim to spread the message of cleaning up Chaliyar River to the local community. Koushik Kodithodika, the founder of Jellyfish Water Sports, also emphasizes the importance of river conservation and promoting activities like kayaking.”
The organizers aim to gather 2,000 kg of Chaliyar river trash during their three-day trip, which will then be sorted and recycled with the help of Green Worms.
On the downstream journey, we’ll have river conservation classes for school kids and introduce locals and children to water sports. The trip ends on October 8th (Sunday) at Jellyfish Water Sports Club in Cheruvannur, Kozhikode, at 2 pm, followed by a valedictory function inaugurated by Tourism Minister P.A. Muhammed Riyas at 4 pm.
